A TWIST OF FATE, voted Best Musical of 1997 by The Straits Times

Twist of Fate"...Best Musical..."

"...Gloriously tongue in cheek...
...perfect comic timing and an unerring sense of absurdity..."
THE STRAITS TIMES, Dec 1997

Twist of Fate"...In the tradition of Agatha Christie and the great "whodunits" of the 1930s. A Twist Of Fate is a comedy of twists and turns, false clues and dastardly deeds, set against the backdrop of a Peranakan family in Singapore...

"...Dark and stormy nights, midnight rendezvous, and inconvenient murder or two, and memorable tunes make this an entertaining, suspense filled evening at the theatre..."
8 DAYS LISTINGS MAGAZINE, SINGAPORE

Twist of Fate"...A Twist of Fate is one of the year's best plays...

"...this fabulous musical stands out as one of the theatrical highlights of 2005..."

"... I would recommend that everyone head along to the Esplanade to work out whodunit..."

"...A Twist of Fate is more than a guilty pleasure, It's a feat for the voracious theatergoer..."

Twist of Fate"...Set in 1937, it's an old fashioned murder mystery that lampoons the works of Agatha Christie, bringing all the suspects together, always at midnight, to reveal the murderer..."

"...Dick Lee and Anthony Drewe's fine work is not a rehash of a Christie pot-boiler, but a delightful parody. An apt comparison would be Neil Simon's hilarious movie Murder By Death..."

Twist of Fate"...The jazzy, piano tinkling musical score in the style of the 1920s and 1930s, the costumes, the midnight meetings, thunder claps, the genteel colonial setting with tea and biscuits, the unnecessary, and far to detailed confession by the murderer as he thinks he is about to escape, it's all lampooned in A Twist of Fate..."

"... And it's hilarious. So much so that individual punchlines were applauded on several occasions, a rarity on the Singapore stage..."

"...It's no mystery. A Twist of Fate is one of the best plays of 2005..."
NEIL HUMPHRES, TODAY

Twist of Fate"...The plot for this murder mystery musical is simple enough. Set in the style of the great writers of whodunits, a young woman, Emma West, returned to Singapore in the hope of finding out about her roots, for she was abandoned as an infant. The individual members of the family she visited (and hoped was hers) all have skeletons in their own closets.

The master of the house, who might be Emma's grandfather, was found murdered. Accusations started flying and another murder was attempted.

Twist of FateIn the end, a suave inspector from the Straists Settlement Police Force trudged in, not unlike Hercule Poirot, to solve this "Murder Most Foul" and apprehended the murderer..."

"...The music written by Dick Lee to lyrics by Anthony Drewe (who incidentally has a role in the musical) was charming..."

Twist of Fate"...A Twist of Fate caught the charm and elegance of the 1930s whilst maintaining its freshness and appeal to the modern day audience..."

"...this was a terribly enjoyable show..."

"...The music was infectious, and had the audience enchanted with its swaying and sweeping melodies..."
THE STRAITS TIMES, DEC 2005
