Feel the party on Old Compton Street
Feel the pavement throb beneath your feet
take a seat, watch the show.
Nothing's normal on Old Compton Street
Dress informal as you jump aboard,
step inside, urges will be satisfied
Here where life is sweet , Old Compton Street.
Soho Cinders is a modern musical fable, loosely based on the Cinderella story, which takes place in the throbbing heart of London’s most cosmopolitan district, Soho.
Our story centers around a love triangle between a prospective Mayor of London, James Prince, his fiancée, PR guru Marilyn Platt, and a young gay guy, Robbie Crawford, who James meets anonymously in an internet chat room.
Media-savvy heart throb Prince, an ex-Olympic swimming champion, has announced a “Meet Your Candidate” party, ahead of the impending election, for a variety of randomly chosen businesses within central London.
Loggerheads, the internet café in which our hero Robbie works, is one of the chosen establishments.
Loggerheads is owned by Robbie’s shady stepfather, Les, and his two gold digging stepsisters, Clodagh and Dana – all three of whom take advantage of Robbie’s good nature and expertise with computers.
The café is also the central meeting point for Robbie’s circle of friends, Velcro, his frizzy haired best friend, a single Mum who runs the hair salon next door, Sidesaddle, a loud mouthed lesbian rickshaw cyclist, Rick a West End ticket tout, and Jackson, a young ‘glamour’ photographer.
On hearing of the prospective Mayor’s party, Les hatches a plot. He has heard from a dubious acquaintance – a drunken transvestite known only as Belinda – that James Prince may not be as squeaky clean as he appears, and may in fact have an eye for the boys.
In order to make a fast buck and get his creditors off his back, Les plans an extortion scam. He sends Robbie to the Mayor’s party with the sole intention of photographing Prince in a compromising position, thus obtaining an exclusive he can sell to the Press.
Robbie is forced to go through with the ‘ridiculous plot’ but when fleeing the party he leaves something behind… his mobile phone.
Will James win the election?
Will Marilyn win her man?
Will Robbie’s passion win out? |
